Statistical properties for music generation

Alex Stamatiades

I am a PhD student in the Department of Music at the University of Sheffield. My research is about the quantification of aesthetic properties of music and algorithmic generation of music that is informed by music cognition literature. My background is in Statistics (BSc at the University of Piraeus) and Cognitive Science (MA at the University of Sheffield). In the PhD project I am using statistical methods and programming in order to find properties that are related to the aesthetic value of melodies, and use these findings along with a quantification of existing findings of cognition in order to make algorithms that produce music.

My other activities include songwriting, producing and mixing music, photography and graphic design.
